SUMMARY
The Facilities Maintenance Technician will work closely with the Facilities Maintenance Coordinator to support all city facilities activities concerning preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, and general maintenance. The Facilities Maintenance Technician will play a vital role in ensuring the proper upkeep, cleanliness, and functionality of all municipal buildings and properties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance tasks on city-owned facilities, including but not limited to community centers, public offices, parks, and recreational areas.
- Conduct repairs and troubleshoot issues related to plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, and general building infrastructure.
- Collaborate with the facilities maintenance team to prioritize and address work orders in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Ensure all safety protocols and guidelines are followed while working on various maintenance tasks.
- Coordinate with external contractors and vendors when specialized repairs or services are required.
- Keep an inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment, and promptly report any shortages or needs to the supervisor.
- Support the city's sustainability initiatives by implementing energy-efficient practices where applicable.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests outside of regular working hours when necessary.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical certifications or vocational training in facilities maintenance is a plus.
- Proven experience in facilities maintenance, general repairs, and upkeep, preferably in a municipal or similar setting.
- Solid understanding of basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Proficiency in using a variety of hand and power tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose issues accurately.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.
- Physical stamina to perform manual labor and lift heavy objects.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures related to maintenance tasks.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to operate maintenance equipment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School graduate or GED equivalent, General knowledge of preventative maintenance; 5 years construction experience preferred. Working hands on in general maintenance and repair. Demonstrate ability to work and communicate professionally, verbally, and in written form with internal and external customers. Must have strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment. Responsibility for follow-up on actions based on various team projects.
High organizational skills in managing multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to perform and manage technically complex projects using independent judgment and personal initiative. Build strong internal and external relationships using effective verbal and written communication skills. Recognize and act on opportunities; adjust direction when situation warrants. Work independently without regular direct supervision. Must be a provider of excellent customer service.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and write the English language.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one by start of employment without record of suspension or revocation in any state.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicant must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older at time of hire and have no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven (7) years.

Work is performed mostly in a field environment. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of equipment.
