Performs a high level of paraprofessional tasks at the Siloam Springs Public Library.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: (Other duties may be assigned as needed)
- Greets and assists patrons in a courteous manner.
- Shelves books, shelf reads and organizes library materials.
- Circulation of library materials.
- Helps process materials added to library collection.
- Assists with bulletin boards, decorative displays and special book displays throughout the library.
- Assists Program Coordinators with the implementation of library programs.
- Attends meetings and workshops related to library services.
- Processes registration of new patrons.
- Maintains patron records.
- Opens and closes library as shift requires.
- Assists patrons with using computer office programs, graphic programs, computer software, and the Internet.
- Assists patrons with e-book devices.
- Maintains a working knowledge of the online library system.
- Assists with inspection of and repairs to library material as needed.
- Assists patrons with memorials, donations, and interlibrary loans.
- Helps train work study students and volunteers.
- Performs basic maintenance procedures on public and staff copiers, computers, phones, and faxes as needed.
- Assists in maintaining meeting room usage.
- Helps with inventory process.
- Works with other staff to accomplish tasks.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May exercise direction over work-study students and volunteers at the discretion of the Library Manager/Assistant Library Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent and one year of related experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system. Ability to be organized. Ability to work as a team member, or independently, as needed. Basic knowledge of reader interest levels. Ability to use current technology.
Experience with multi-line telephone system; copy machine; fax machine; key calculator, library automation system; graphic computer programs; Microsoft Office.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Effective verbal and written skills and telephone etiquette. Ability to provide information and respond to questions from clients, customers, and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages. May need to figure amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and proportions if helping a patron. Ability to perform basic accounting functions.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

*Weather Essential position includes employees, which are declared to be all sworn police officers, all sworn firefighters, dispatchers, emergency road crew employees in the Street Department, and electrical personnel in the Electric Department.

Saturdays 8:30 am-4:30 pm
