Technician, System Support
City of Siloam Springs
SUNMARY
The incumbent is primarily responsible for basic support and maintenance of desktop/ laptop computers plus associated peripheral equipment. Provide Help Desk and onsite computer support to all City of Siloam Springs employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: (Other duties may be assigned as needed)
- Troubleshoot and support PC hardware, peripherals and end devices. Install and configure Windows desktop operating systems and peripheral software.
- Assist in operating the City computer help desk.
- Operate broadcast equipment for City Board and Commission Meetings.
- Assist the System Support Analysts to ensure patching and updating of workstation hardware and operating systems.
- Work closely with the I. T. staff to test and implement new security and encryption schemes.
- Fulfill support functions for network users when required.
- Assist the Network Engineer and Network Analyst to maintain user accounts for all users.
- Assist the System Support Analysts to maintain network software services to include anti-virus and various client-based software.
- Provide cell phone and VOIP phone support for all departments
- Assist IT office staff to maintain a clean and professional environment at all times.
- Conduct extensive documentation, detailing processes and procedures followed in the execution of duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

A strong knowledge of PC hardware and Windows system software plus working knowledge of Windows servers and network connectivity equipment and software. Familiarity with internet connectivity plus small business PC and printer hardware. Working knowledge of LAN/WAN technology. A+ and/or Network+ certification preferred.
Position requires initiative-driven self-starter, energetic, strong organizational skills, willingness to get things done correctly, and ability to prioritize workload. Detailed oriented and be able to handle a variety of tasks in an efficient manner.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
3 months to 1 + years of desktop support experience, with at least High School Diploma. A+ Qualification is helpful. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems, Office software and 3 months to 1 + years practical experience in applying these skills in a working environment. 3 months to 1 + years' experience in Network Hardware and Software support.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Good communication skills, able to communicate in a professional and friendly manner with co-workers and customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid driver's license.
