SUMMARY
The Operator, Water/Wastewater Service is responsible for responding to customer water and sewer inquiries, completing water and sewer line locates, collect GIS information, and share that information with the GIS Analyst, maintain records related to water and sewer infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Locate water and sewer lines according to the requirements set forth by Arkansas One Call.
- Maintain a variety of records relating to inspections and maintenance activity.
- Oversee leak detection equipment, process, and recordkeeping involved with the process.
- Contact residents and business owners in area where services will be interrupted and explain when service will be shut off and how soon service will be restored.
- Insure the proper maintenance and cleanliness of equipment and tools prior to and after use.
- Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to the supervisor.
- Performs unskilled manual labor, as necessary, in a variety of maintenance and construction projects within the Water/Wastewater Division.
- Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
- Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including, but not limited to; pavement cutting, ditch digging, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling.
- Cuts, fit, lay, tap, clean, repair, and flush water mains. Install services, fire hydrants, and assists in shutting off broken sections of water main.
- Display the knowledge of water and sewer procedures.
- Perform new water and sewer line inspections including pressure test new water and sewer lines, pull water samples, and complete mandrel main line tests as required by the State of Arkansas.
- Perform maintenance and repairs to lift stations.
- Complete work orders involving reading water meters, disconnecting and/or reconnecting water meters, install new water meter, replace dead meters, lock down meters, and provide accurate and timely information in meter book for Utility Billing.
- Collect data points for water/sewer to update the GIS system.
- Maintain GIS software and equipment.
- Assist with storm cleanup.
- Creates and maintains spreadsheets for water meters (locations, serial numbers, etc.) and fire hydrant meters.
- Completes required on-going training to maintain water distribution license.
- Completes customer requests for items such as high or low water pressure, check for leaks, set fire hydrant meters, assists customers with bulk water station, etc.
- Works on fountains at the Gateway Pond off Highway 412 and on Sager Creek downtown.
- Serves as a division lead in the absence of the Foreman and Superintendent.
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one (1) to three (3) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must hold a Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment. Minimum of Class III Water Distribution Certification or ability to obtain within 18 months of employment.

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat, cold, wet or humid conditions (non-weather related). The incumbent works in high precarious places, and works near moving mechanical parts and is at risk of electrical shock and or vibration. The incumbent is exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
