General Description
The Recreation Services Specialist serves as the primary customer service representative at the Rogers Activity Center front desk and/or fitness center desk. This position provides direct support to guests, members, and program participants by delivering exceptional customer service, assisting with registrations and memberships, monitoring facility access, and supporting daily facility operations. This position is often the first point of contact for the public and plays a key role in supporting youth and adult sports registrations, fitness center memberships, and general recreation programming services. The Recreation Services Specialist helps ensure a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for all visitors and serves as an initial responder in emergency situations until emergency medical personnel arrive. The position may be Full-time or Part-time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide exceptional customer service to guests, members, and program. Serve as the primary point of contact for visitors entering the recreation center. Answer phones and respond to public inquiries regarding programs, memberships, facility usage, schedules, special events and general Parks and Recreation information. Maintain working knowledge of daily and weekly facility schedules, programs, and activities. Support a welcoming and inclusive environment that reflects the department’s commitment to community engagement and service excellence.
Assist customers with registrations for youth and adult sports programs, camps, classes, and special events. Support fitness center membership sales, renewals, and account updates. Utilize recreation management software to register participants, maintain membership records, update customer accounts, and generate receipts. Support special events, programs, and community activities as needed.
Process payments including cash, credit cards, and electronic transactions. Balance assigned cash drawers and reconcile daily transactions in accordance with municipal financial procedures. Follow established financial controls and audit standards related to point-of-sale operations
Monitor front desk and fitness desk activity to ensure safe and appropriate facility use. Check out and receive facility equipment as needed. Report facility concerns, maintenance needs, or safety issues to supervisors. Assist with opening and closing procedures and maintain clean and organized spaces within the facility.
Maintain awareness of activities within assigned areas to promote a safe environment. Monitor participant behavior and enforce facility policies and procedures in a professional and consistent manner. Monitor general fitness floor activity for safety and policy compliance.
Serve as an initial responder in emergencies until EMT or emergency personnel arrive. Obtain and maintain CPR/AED certification. Follow departmental safety procedures and incident reporting protocols.

Education And Experience
- Education: High school, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc.
- Experience General: 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training.
