Essential Job Duties

Safety/Security Sensitive Designation:This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

  1. Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
  2. Perform pre and post trip inspections as needed.
  3. Operate and maintain compost operations equipment including wheel loader, row turner, grinder, screener, food waste collection truck, and dump trucks.
  4. Build compost rows using methods established for the Modified Static Aerobic Pile method used to compost food waste.
  5. Collect and service food waste containers and provide feedback to supervisor for reporting contamination
  6. Maintain and clean vehicles and equipment and perform minor repairs. Diagnose problems in the field with equipment.
  7. Works an 8 hour day on average.
  8. Communicate over radio as needed.
  9. Ensure trucks and equipment are fueled as needed and recorded properly.
  10. Responsible for providing customer service during hours site is open to the public.
  11. Accept and receipt in money from the public in the compost office and in the scale house.
  12. Maintain daily temperature recording of food waste rows and enter into spreadsheets for compliance with the City’s ADEQ Type O Permit secured for the site.
  13. Monitor detention ponds and compost site for compliance with Industrial Stormwater Permit held at the site.
  14. Monitor scrap metal trailer including loading scrap metal to remain in compliance with the Industrial Stormwater Permit.
  15. Remove freon from freon bearing appliances processed on site.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED and one year of related experience.
  2. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must obtain a Class B CDL permit within 3 weeks of hire. Within four weeks of hire date must have scheduled an appointment to take the CDL driving test. Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License within six weeks of hire date.
  3. Must possess or have the ability to quickly learn basic computer skills such as those needed for data entry, timekeeping software, GPS, and other related technology. Must be able to learn to navigate and enter transactions in the City’s cashiering module of the ERP system.
  4. Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
  5. Must be skilled in the use of heavy equipment and trucks.
  6. Must be able to utilize two-way radio and cell phone.
  7. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  8. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and regularly works outside in various weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
