Essential Job Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Note: All City of Fayetteville positions require employees to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. Other essential duties of this position include the following:
1. Create, edit, and maintain GIS features and attributes in accordance with established standards (e.g., parcels, addresses, utilities, stormwater, transportation, boundaries).
2. Perform routine GIS data maintenance including attribute updates, topology checks, and QA/QC to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
3. Digitize, georeference, and reconcile source materials such as as-builts, plats, plans, field notes, and CAD drawings.
4. Produce standard and custom maps and map exports (print and digital) using approved templates, symbology, and cartographic standards.
5. Complete basic spatial analysis tasks (e.g., queries, selections, buffers, overlays, spatial joins) and summarize results for staff.
6. Support field-to-office data workflows, including assisting with mobile/GPS data collection, updates, and troubleshooting.
7. Operate GPS equipment in the field to collect and update spatial data.
8. Visually verify features in the field to confirm location/attributes and ensure accuracy of GIS databases.
9. Respond in a courteous and professional manner to requests for information and services from City staff, citizens, other governmental agencies, businesses, and non-profit organizations.
10. Research records within the City and County governments.
11. Perform operation of GPS equipment in the field to collect water system, sewer system, and stormwater structures.
12. Respond to internal GIS service requests; coordinate with departments to clarify needs and deliver accurate products on schedule.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.Secondary Job Duties

Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years of GIS-related field experience; or High School Diploma or GED and six years of GIS-related field experience.
2. Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
3. Must pass a criminal background check, including but not limited to offenses cited in A.C.A. 21-15-103 and A.C.A. 21-15-111.
4. Working knowledge of GIS concepts including coordinate systems/projections, spatial data, attribute management, and basic cartography.
5. Proficiency with common GIS software and tools (e.g., ESRI Products) and standard GIS data formats.
6. Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
7. Ability to interpret and apply information from maps, plans, drawings, and records for accurate GIS updates.
8. Must be able to read and comprehend instructions, software help manuals, tutorials, and trade journals on GIS-related topics.
9. Must be proficient in the use of a computer and other related software programs. Must be able to effectively operate standard office equipment.
10. Must have the ability to traverse rough terrain to perform field work.
11. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others, stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities to accomplish computer and office work.
12. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
