Essential Job Duties

Safety/Security Sensitive Designation:
This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

  1. Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of his or her own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
  2. Responsible for keeping Recycling Drop Off facility clean and in good operating condition. Perform all duties that may arise to efficiently and safely maintain and operate the Recycling facility such as; monitoring vehicular and pedestrian traffic flow. Clear snow and ice from doors and walkways in and around building, and containers; maintain and clean grounds as necessary.
  3. Assists users of the Recycling Center, by explaining what materials are acceptable, showing where materials go, and by helping them with unloading materials and placing where needed, if necessary in order to minimize contamination in recycling bins and provide recycling education to users of the site.
  4. Conduct recycling and environmental education tours of facilities to various groups using a variety of methods including developing public presentations.
  5. Ability to operate all department trucks to assist in the day to day movement of recycling materials from the facilities and ensure that safe procedures are followed in the operation of all department vehicles.
  6. Communicate with co-workers to schedule collection and exchange of recycling containers as needed.
  7. Assist, when necessary, in using appropriate equipment in the servicing recyclables and transporting to the MRF. Assisting in composting operations or any onsite facilities.
  8. May be responsible for coordinating with volunteers.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.
  10. Assist in maintaining recycling database, traffic counting software, and scale house software as implemented.

Secondary Job Duties

  1. May be called upon to operate skidsteer, forklift or baler.
  2. May be called upon to operate the scale house for inbound and outbound loads.
  3. Secondary duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED or one year of related experience and/or training.
  2. Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License, Class B.
  3. Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
  4. Must be available to work an 8 hour day on average. The weekly work schedule will be determined seasonally, is flexible and can change frequently. Schedule will include Saturday and or Sunday.
  5. Obtain and maintain Solid Waste Management Facility Operator License from ADEQ – Class 1 A within one year.
  6. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret solid waste division rules, CDL regulations and City ordinances pertaining to Solid Waste and Recycling. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, members of the business community, Police Department and Fire Department.
  7. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  8. Must be proficient in the use of a computer and related software programs such as word processing and spreadsheet applications. Must be able to effectively operate standard office equipment and solid waste equipment.
  9. While performing the functions of this job, the employee must have proper hygiene to interact with public.
  10. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must have vision abilities to perform essential functions.
  11. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles; regularly exposed to outside weather conditions; and occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  12. Ability to calculate basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  13. Must be proficient in the use of heavy equipment, trucks and two-way radio, cell phone and computer.
