Essential Job Duties

Note: All City of Fayetteville supervisory positions require employees to demonstrate leadership competencies by exhibiting appropriate role modeling, and setting proper examples. In addition, all City of Fayetteville positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. Other essential duties of this position include the following:

  1. Perform supervisory responsibilities which may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City's policies and applicable laws.
  2.   3. Maintain Judge's calendar and prepare daily schedule. Schedule and confirm hearings, trials, etc on Judge's calendar and receive and schedule visitors. Arrange meetings as required.
  4. Act as liaison between Judge and a variety of departments and agencies.
  5. Answer telephone calls, screen callers, take messages, provide general information to the public and make appropriate referrals to other offices. Answer questions from attorneys, other office staff and the general public.
  6. Oversee clerical support activities relating to the administration of legal process and procedures.
  7. Evaluate court operations and procedures, provides recommendations and directions in order to create procedural and operational streamlining; provide coordination of automated information system; coordinate staff development and training.
  8. Advise Lead Clerk regarding questions of procedures, coordination of operations and supervisory issues.
  9. Participate in meetings with administration counterparts in order to resolve shared operating problems and procedural issues. Recommend changes in policies and procedures.
  10. Perform budget preparation, accounting and facilities activities; provide effective support to the District Judge.
  11. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that gets along with customer, clients, co-workers, Judges, attorneys, outside departments and administration.
  12. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Secondary Job Duties

  1. Attend court hearings, motions and trials to record information in speed writing; transcribe information into docket sheets.
  2. Respond to inquiries and concerns from the public and outside departments.
  3. Secondary duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED and five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience and a minimum of two years of management experience.
  2. Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
  3. Ability to obtain Notary Public State Certification preferred.
  4. Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer and other related software programs. Must be able to effectively operate standard office equipment.
  5. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to move from location to location; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Standard vision abilities to accomplish computer and office work. .
