Essential Job Duties

Safety/Security Sensitive Designation:
This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

  1. Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
  2. Perform supervisory responsibilities which may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City's policies and applicable laws.
  3. Perform collection and processing duties as assigned.
  4. Perform job duties in an accurate manner in order to protect the health and safety of the citizens of the City of Fayetteville.
  5. Schedule work and achieve goals while keeping work flow steady for crews and assist other crews as needed.
  6. Ability to operate equipment to perform all jobs in the department.
  7. Exercise independent judgment to make on site decisions to overcome unforeseen problems that arise.
  8. Train employees on equipment used in daily operations.
  9. Ensure equipment is properly maintained and schedule repairs on vehicles and equipment.
  10. Ensure safety procedures are followed by all drivers.
  11. Communicate with employees, residents, customers, and the general public in a professional manner.
  12. Investigate problems in the field and determine best course of action to resolve issues.
  13. Supervise materials, personnel, and equipment required to complete assigned projects.
  14. Investigate accidents and injuries and complete necessary reports.
  15. Assist in special projects from supervisors
  16. Prepare paperwork as required.
  17. Attend monthly safety committee meetings as assigned.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.

Secondary Job Duties

  1. Serve as backup to perform duties of Operations Supervisor or Route Supervisor as needed.
  2. Secondary duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED and two years of related experience.
  2. Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License, Class B.
  3. Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
  4. Must be proficient in the use of a computer and related software programs. Must be able to effectively operate standard office equipment.
  5. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret Division Rules, CDL regulations, and City ordinances pertaining to the Recycling and Trash Collections division. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, members of the business community, Police Department and Fire Department.
  6. Ability to calculate addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, basic algebra and formulas.
  7. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  8. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet/and or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions with potential extreme heat in the summer and cold in the winter. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
