Safety/Security Sensitive Designation:
This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment.
- Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
- Test meters and keep accurate data of each meter.
- Rebuild and make necessary repairs of meters after testing and failure of standard requirements.
- Install meters, including large commercial size meters.
- Connect high tech reading devices to meters in order to facilitate electronic data exchange.
- Maintain electronic meter reading devices by troubleshooting and repairing as necessary.
- Maintain accurate records, including meter history.
- Maintain excellent customer relations with other city departments, businesses, citizens, contractors, and the U of A.
- On call 24/7 including holidays for emergency response, on a rotating basis.
- Perform fire hydrant flow testing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Secondary Job Duties

- Keep shelves stocked with new meters.

Minimum Qualifications
-
- High school diploma or GED and two years of related experience required.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License.
- Ability to obtain certificates from various meter repair and testing seminars throughout time in the position.
- Must possess or obtain confined space certification within two years of employment.
- Prefer possession of a Water Distribution Operator I license.
- Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, and technical mathematical or diagram instructions.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers.
- Ability to learn to be proficient in the use of a computer, standard office equipment, gas and electrical cutting tools, various power and hand tools, computerized water meter test bench, and electronic programming and data collection devices.
- Ability to learn and be proficient in the use of a supervisory and data acquisition system (SCADA) in addition to leak detection equipment, pressure flow measurement equipment, and electronic meter/water line locating equipment.
- While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet/and or humid conditions with test benches, moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme heat from use of torches in confined spaces; risk of electrical shock; and risk of vibration. The work environment can be loud.
