Essential Job Duties

    1. Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
    2. Coordinate with other City departments in resolving complaints and problems.
    3. Design water and sewer line extensions, street and drainage improvements and other facilities.
    4. Prepare plans, specifications and contract documents for project designs.
    5. Provide project management for ongoing Public Works Projects including record keeping for project expenses and project scheduling.
    6. Review plans and specifications for site plans, subdivision plats and other submittals for conformance with standards, ordinances and other City requirements. Coordinate reviews with other departments, utility companies and other agencies.
    7. Investigate complaints from citizens regarding municipal facilities and requests for assistance.
    8. Assists engineers, contractors, builders, governmental agencies and others with requests for design criteria and standards, construction details and City requirements for public works facilities.
    9. Prepare and deliver presentations and reports at public meetings including but not limited to Planning Commission, City Council and City Council Committees.
    10. Assist the City Engineer with special projects as assigned. Draft updates to City Code and/or City standards and manuals. Prepare Master Plan Updates for transportation, sidewalks, and drainage programs.
    11. Evaluate reports of code violations associated with grading and drainage activities. Coordinate with City Engineer, or Development and Construction Manager to issue Notice of Violation when necessary.
    12. Attend biweekly staff meetings and other meetings with engineers, surveyors and land agents as required.
    13. Perform other duties as assigned.
  1. ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:
    1. All City of Fayetteville supervisory positions require the employee to demonstrate leadership competencies by exhibiting appropriate role modeling and setting proper examples.
    2. Perform supervisory responsibilities which may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City's policies and applicable laws.

Secondary Job Duties

  1. Serve as backup to provide onsite project inspection for City public works projects under construction.
  2. Perform secondary duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree from a college or university in Engineering and four (4) years of related experience or a Master's degree in Engineering and two (2) years of related experience.
  2. Must possess a valid Driver's License.
  3. Must currently possess registration as a Professional Engineer (PE). Must possess registration in the State of Arkansas as a Professional Engineer (PE) within six months of date of hire.
  4. Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
  5. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to management, public groups and/or boards of directors.
  6. Must be proficient in the use of a computer and related software programs such as word processing and spreadsheet applications. Previous experience with engineering computer programs for design of drainage, streets and water is preferred.
  7. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit, move from location to location, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally required to traverse uneven terrain such as construction sites.
