Essential Job Duties

Safety/Security Sensitive Designation:
This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

The starting rate of pay for this position will depend on experience and qualifications.

  1. Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of his or her own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
  2. Perform hand labor for asphalt, concrete or other material as needed.
  3. Operate concrete saws to make necessary cuts in order to continue work flow.
  4. Operate loaders, tree trimmers and other construction equipment as needed. Properly maintain assigned equipment.
  5. Perform traffic control – directing and flagging of vehicles.
  6. Mow, weed eat, trim and prune right of ways and other areas as assigned.
  7. Prune and remove hazardous trees as needed.
  8. Begin training on the use of heavy equipment such as dump trucks or backhoes, or specialized equipment such as milling machine, roller, dozer and paving machine.
  9. Learn to set grade, form and finish concrete for sidewalks, curb and gutter, streets and trails.
  10. Perform snow and ice removal during winter months.
  11. Install pipe as assigned.
  12. Operate other tools as needed: chainsaw, chipper and compacter.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Secondary Job Duties

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License.
  3. Must obtain a Class B CDL within 120 days of hire date.
  4. Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
  5. Proficiency in the use of skid steer, front-end loader, dump trucks, milling machine, roller, paving machine, flatbed trailer, truck, backhoe, hand tools, chainsaw and street saw preferred.
  6. Ability to read and understand safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  7. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  8. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear for safety reasons or to operate certain equipment. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  9. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
