Essential Job Duties

Safety/Security Sensitive Designation:
This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment.
PARK MAINTENANCE ASSIGNMENT:- Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of his or her own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
- Provide labor to assist all areas of the division as assigned.
- Operate mowers, weed eaters, blowers and other small engine equipment.
- Clean restrooms as assigned.
- Perform physical labor including using a shovel, rake and other various hand tools.
- Pick up litter from parks and trails.
- Clean shop and storage areas.
- Install holiday lights which typically involves working from aerial lifts and on ladders.
HORTICULTURE ASSIGNMENT:- Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of his or her own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
- Assist with cultivation and care of flowers, plants, shrubs, trees and turf on public spaces.
- Participate in propagation, care and transplanting of plants.
- Maintain assigned flower beds and gardens in public spaces.
- Assist with care and maintenance of equipment.
- Interact with the public and answer garden related questions.

Minimum Qualifications

- No prior training or experience is required. Prefer six months of related experience.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check, including but not limited to convictions, guilty pleas, or no contest pleas to violent offenses, theft offenses, offenses against children, and any offense that would qualify to prevent a person from obtaining an Arkansas teaching certificate (A.C.A. 6-17-410).
- Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of distance.
- Must be proficient in the use of various hand tools.
- While performing the functions of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions and risk of vibration.The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
