Essential Job Duties

Safety/Security Sensitive Designation:

This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

  1. Maintain parks, trails, amenities, landscaping, green spaces, trees, shrubs, turf, and irrigation.
  2. Operate and maintain small equipment such as push mowers, string trimmers, blowers, chain saws, pressure washers and hand tools.
  3. Operate and maintain large equipment such as zero turn mowers, tractors, backhoes, excavators, skid steers, trucks and trailers, stump grinders, and aerial lifts.
  4. Utilize fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides as necessary to maintain turf, trees, and grounds.
  5. Perform basic repairs on irrigation and park amenities.
  6. Repair vandalism and remove graffiti.
  7. Keep grounds free from trash, litter, and debris, and empty trash and recycling receptacles.
  8. Prepare and grade soil and install seed, sod, and/or mulch.
  9. Remove snow and ice from downtown square area and other parks and trails.
  10. Plant, prune, mulch, and water trees. Remove hazardous trees as needed.
  11. Install holiday lights which typically involves working from aerial lifts and on ladders.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Secondary Job Duties

  1. Occasionally required to take a lead role in the performance of duties within a crew.
  2. Secondary duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED and 12 months of prior experience required.
  2. Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
  3. Must successfully pass criminal background check, including but not limited to convictions, guilty pleas, or no contest pleas to violent offenses, offenses against children, and any offense that would qualify to prevent a person from obtaining an Arkansas teaching certificate (A.C.A. 6-17-410).
  4. Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
  5. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  6. Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of distance.
  7. Must be able to operate various hand tools, mowers, bush hog, utility vehicles, trailers, tractors, backhoe, hand tools, chalker, irrigation system, scoreboard controllers, blowers, weed-eaters, trimmers, chainsaw, aerial-lift, grinder, and chipper.
  8. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  9. While performing the functions of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and risk of vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
