Safety/Security Sensitive Designation:
This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.- Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
- Perform supervisory responsibilities which may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City's policies and applicable laws.
- This position is responsible to perform job duties in an accurate manner in order to protect the health and safety of the citizens of the City of Fayetteville.
- Schedule work and achieve goals while keeping work flow steady for crews and assist other crews as needed.
- Perform route audits to improve route efficiencies.
- Advise supervisor of potential problems, propose and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Review and approve timesheets and leave requests.
- Ensure employees are properly trained in work processes, worksite and equipment safety, vehicle, and equipment maintenance schedules.
- Provide assistance during the budget preparation process.
- Respond to citizen and service requests; make independent decisions in the field as to course of action to be taken.
- Perform routine inspections for storm water pollution prevention plan and document findings.
- Perform site and vehicle inspections and follow up as needed to resolve issues.
- Update and manage route books.
- Review specifications for new equipment and provide feedback to Fleet Division.
- Test drive and check new equipment as applicable.
- Investigate accidents and injuries and complete necessary reports.
- Attend monthly Human Resources safety meetings as assigned.
- Primarily responsible for safety procedures, rules, regulations, training and checklists.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Secondary Job Duties

- Serve as backup to perform the duties of other supervisory positions within the division as assigned.
- Perform secondary duties as assigned.
- Minimum Qualifications
-
- High school diploma or GED and three years of related experience, plus previous supervisory experience.
- Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License, Class B.
- Ability to operate solid waste equipment to perform assigned job duties.
- Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
- Must possess or obtain Solid Waste Management Facility Operator License from ADEQ – Class 1 A within one year of hire.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret division rules, CDL regulations and City ordinances pertaining to solid waste and recycling.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, members of the business community, Police Department, and Fire Department.
- Ability to calculate addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Must be proficient in the use of a computer and other related software programs. Must be able to effectively operate standard office equipment and solid waste equipment.
- While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must have vision abilities to perform essential functions.
- While performing the functions of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles; regularly exposed to outside weather conditions; and occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
