SUMMARY: As set forth by the Public Works Maintenance Manager, supervises and coordinates the daily activities of PW Custodial Crew Leaders and PW Custodial Workers engaged in the cleaning of City facilities.
LEVELS OF RESPONSIBITY:
- Supervisory Responsibilities: 10 - 15 total personnel
- Annual Budget: $65,000 – $75,000

DIRECT SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises 2 Custodial Crew Leaders and 10-15 custodians covering 12 city facilities that are part of the Facility Custodial Team within the Public Works Maintenance Department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, recommending rewarding and disciplining employees and addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reporting relationships, work assignments, and work schedules may be subject to change to meet city needs or operational requirements.
- Supervises custodial crew leaders and custodial workers engaged in cleaning city facilities.
- Works with vendors ordering janitorial supplies ensuring there are adequate janitorial supplies.
- Creates purchase orders, receives, and processes invoices for vendor payments.
- Coordinates with city facility managers for extra custodial staff for and during special events.
- Supervises and approves all facility custodial schedules and shifts.
- Responible for ensuring that cleaning standards are being met at all city facilities.
- Interprets city policies to workers.
- Acts as the lead safety supervisor for the custodial staff by monitoring and enforcing all city and state safety regulations.
- Assists with payroll, budgets, and evaluations.
- Maintains and researches best practices and new products for cleaning products and equipment.
- Maintains good verbal communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with custodial staff, city employees, and facility managers.
- Alerts maintenance staff to needed facility repairs.
- Tracks and reports time off for employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the PW Manager and Asst. Manager.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and ten (10) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Successfully completed supervisory training programs or seminars.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
REASONING ABILITY: Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
Must be proficient in use of a personal computer and other related software programs. Must be able to effectively operate standard office equipment.
