SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, The Communications and Marketing Specialist supports the department’s outreach and engagement efforts by developing marketing materials, managing digital content, and assisting with promotional activities for Bentonville Parks and Recreation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting relationships, work assignments, and work schedules may be subject to change in order to meet City needs or operational requirements. Attendance at work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors, and co-workers are essential elements of this position. Other duties may be assigned.
Key Responsibilities
- Marketing & Design
- Creates graphics, maps, signage, and marketing materials for trails, bikeways, construction projects, and department initiatives.
- Works with the Bike Ped Planner and Park Planning Team to develop clear and engaging visual assets for public communication.
- Digital Media & Content Management
- Manages and updates the department website with relevant information about parks, trails, and events.
- Monitors and engages in social media discussions, ensuring timely responses and community engagement.
- Captures and organizes photos and videos for use in marketing, reports, and presentations.
- Coordinates and directs photo and video shoots to enhance promotional content.
- Event Promotion & Sponsorships
- Designs materials to support large events, including the Run Bentonville Half Marathon, Square 2 Square, and Fourth of July Celebration.
- Assists with event promotion, sponsorship sales, and coordination during events.
- Administrative & Outreach Support
- Assists in the creation of presentations, reports, and documents for leadership, council, and commission meetings.
- Maintains a digital media library for marketing assets.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Minimum of an Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with an emphasis in marketing, communications, or an associated field; and minimum 2 years’ experience working in a marketing, communications, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
