SUMMARY
The City of Bentonville is seeking a professional, organized, and highly motivated individual to serve as the Park Supervisor – Downtown Park Facilities. This position provides leadership and oversight for the maintenance, horticultural care, and daily operations of the City’s most visible and high-use downtown parks and public spaces. Responsibilities include supervising a horticulturist and maintenance staff, overseeing contracted landscape services, coordinating maintenance in high-traffic areas, supporting downtown events, and ensuring all downtown parks remain safe, clean, functional, and welcoming. Additional responsibilities include budgeting, invoice processing, supply procurement, hiring, training, and evaluating employees.

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Annual Budget: $750,000 - $1,000,000
  • Responsible Asset Value: $40,000,000 (includes all downtown park amenities, plantings, infrastructure, and streetscape features)
  • Technology Requirements: Brightly, Tyler/Munis, Executime, BambooHR, Microsoft Office Suite, irrigation controls, landscape equipment, and horticultural tools

  • Additional downtown areas and rights-of-way as assigned

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise horticulturists, maintenance workers, and contractors to ensure high-quality downtown park operations.
  • Coordinate daily operations and schedules for staff and contractors in high-visibility areas.
  • Oversee planting, pruning, plant selection, fertilization, integrated pest management, and disease control.
  • Support seasonal plant displays, irrigation monitoring, and landscape renovations.
  • Manage cleanliness, litter control, graffiti removal, and general upkeep for downtown parks and plazas.
  • Coordinate operational support for downtown events, including setup, cleanup, power access, and logistical support.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage contracts for downtown landscape and facility services.
  • Assist Parks leadership with budgeting, invoice processing, supply procurement, and purchasing.
  • Hire, train, and evaluate employees under supervision.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, municipal regulations, and documentation requirements for inspections, maintenance logs, and contractor records.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly and indirectly supervises Parks Maintenance Workers, Horticulturists, and contracted service providers. Responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating performance, addressing concerns, and resolving personnel issues consistent with City policies and employment law. Oversees contractor compliance with service agreements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree, OR seven (7) years of related experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Five (5) years municipal parks experience preferred

SKILLS

  • Read and interpret safety rules, procedural manuals, and technical documents
  • Write clear reports, logs, and work-related correspondence
  • Communicate effectively with staff, contractors, and the public
  • Basic math: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, area, volume
  • Apply problem-solving techniques to routine and complex situations
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES

  • Valid Driver’s License (required)
  • Playground Safety Inspector (preferred)
  • Chemical Applicator License (preferred)
  • Backflow Certification (preferred)
