Safety/Security Status: Safety Sensitive

SUMMARY This is an entry-level safety sensitive position located at the Water Resource Recovery Facility. Position requires close attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, safe vehicle operational skills, excellent attendance, and shift work. Under direct supervision, following all safety policies and procedures, perform all required activities in operation and/or maintenance of equipment and buildings at the WRRF.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting, relationships, work assignments, and work schedules may be subject to change to meet City needs or operational requirements. Attendance at work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors, and co-workers are essential elements of this position. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Understands, communicates, and follows oral and written instructions.
  • Attains knowledge of wastewater treatment operation including, government regulations, discharge permit requirements, proper collection of water samples, basic analytical wastewater analysis, and data entry for regulatory and in-house reporting.
  • Monitors plant equipment, gauges, meters, dials, graphs, and assist in basic maintenance and equipment operation to ensure permit compliance.
  • Maintains plant buildings, grounds, and vehicles for the department.
  • Will be required to perform shift work, work on weekends, holidays, and periodic stand by status for emergencies.
  • Follows established safety policy while applying proper techniques in operation and maintenance of wastewater equipment. This includes dump trucks, loaders, backhoe, forklift, and sweeper.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and one (1) year general work experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Candidate must pass an Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality Class I wastewater treatment certification within one year of employment.
  • Participate in continual improvement to attain the Arkansas wastewater certification advancement to the highest level attainable.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently stand, walk, and climb. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT Exposure to all weather conditions, loud noise, vibration, odors, fumes, dust and pollen from green waste pathogenic material, mechanical and electrical hazards; the employee is frequently required to walk stand, talk, hear, and detect specific odors; work near moving mechanical parts and handle hazardous chemicals. Work in confined spaces using a confined space breathing apparatus and exposure to slippery or uneven surfaces.
