WRRF Lab Technician I

SUMMARY This is an entry-level, safety-sensitive position located at the Bentonville Water Resource Recovery Facility under the direct supervision of the Laboratory supervisor. This position requires skilled analytical work involving sampling and laboratory analysis to determine water quality and provide information for process control.
A technician is a worker in a field of technology who is proficient in the relevant skill and technique, with a practical understanding of the theoretical principles.
Technology Knowledge Executime, OP10, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, and Word.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen and have a safe driving record.
· Must maintain a valid driver's license.
· One-year certificate from college or technical school in a related field; or one-year related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· A practical knowledge of chemistry, mathematics, laboratory analysis, and laboratory procedures.
· Must obtain an ADEQ Class I Wastewater Operator Certification within the first year of employment. Other state certifications may be required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Practical and working experience in advanced analytical and quantitative chemical analyses, laboratory procedures and instrumentation; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
· Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to write legibly. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions, and analytical procedure manuals.
· Performs chemical, bacteriological, and biological analyses of municipal wastes, treatment plant processes, and the receiving stream.
· Follows approved methodology to satisfy operational and regulatory permit requirements; Maintains chain of custody documentation for all laboratory processes from the time of sample collection to reporting of sample results.
· Reports effectively all results so to update the quality control program; using a system of internal and external checks and controls as specified to assure precision and accuracy of analyses.
· Reviews basic data manipulation to calculate analysis results and records these for daily reports.
· With guidance from the supervisor, helps maintain record-keeping procedures as specified by state and federal regulatory agencies.
· Performs and documents instrument calibrations and chemical standardization as required.
· Using proper personal protective equipment, prepares chemical solutions and reagents necessary to perform laboratory analyses.
· Cleans the laboratory area, equipment, and glassware to maintain a neat and orderly working area, and to assure quality performance.
· Helps update inventory and proper storage of chemicals and equipment.
· With Supervisor guidance, recognizes the correlation between analysis results and plant operational performance; notifies laboratory supervisor or appropriate person(s) regarding questionable samples and/or results.
· Demonstrates ability to work safely and efficiently. Understands and follows all WRRF safety policies and procedures.
· Reporting relationships, work assignments, and work schedules may be subject to change to meet City needs or operational requirements. Other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT Exposure to all weather conditions, loud noise, vibration, odors, fumes, dust and pollen from green waste pathogenic material, mechanical and electrical hazards; The employee is required to walk, stand, talk, hear, and detect specific odors; work near moving mechanical parts and handle hazardous chemicals and exposure to slippery or uneven surfaces.
