SUMMARY

Inspects and oversees construction of streets, stormwater management, drainage and right-of-way construction projects for the City of Bentonville, ensuring that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications by performing the following duties. This position serves as a liaison between all parties involved with construction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following. Reporting relationships, work assignments, and work schedules may be subject to change in order to meet City needs or operational requirements. Attendance at work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors, and co-workers are essential elements of this position.

Measures distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of installations and layouts;

Assists with ensuring levels, alignment, and elevation of installations are installed per design and to City of Bentonville Specifications;

Ability to perform common inspections and testing relating to the City of Bentonville Transportation Department for Large-Scaled Developments, Preliminary Plats, Final Plats, Permits and Capital Improvements;

Observes work in progress to ensure that procedures are followed, and materials used conform to City of Bentonville specifications;

Attends Pre-Construction meetings to offer knowledge on adjacent projects or explaining common construction practices and City of Bentonville specifications;

Witnesses and records quality control testing to ensure construction conforms to City of Bentonville specifications;

Performs Stormwater Best Management Practice (BMP) inspections and monthly SWPPP Inspections, as required, to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local Regulations;

Ability to collect stormwater samples on construction sites, as needed;

Interprets/Witnesses field nuclear density testing to ensure conformance with City Specifications;

Works City Staff, Engineer of Record and Contractor to assist in any conflicts that may happen during construction;

Ability to use City Vehicles and Equipment for the purposed of work;

Responds to 311 concerns as directed;

Ability to attend classroom training for specific job-related duties, as required;

Performs other duties as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None, but from time to time may offer guidance to the Engineer of Record or designee on City processes and have the ability to assist other departments with inspections if the need arises.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, construction drawings and specifications, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Drivers License
  • Water Distribution Operator’s License (Optional)
  • Wastewater Operator’s License (Optional)
  • Certified Erosion, Sediment, & Stormwater Inspector (CESSWI) - preferred
  • International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA)– preferred Other “Quality Control” Certifications (i.e., ACI Handbook)
