Job Summary:
The Junior Administrator is expected to work under the supervision of the System Administrator with a moderate level of oversight. The position assists in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting hardware, software and networking systems at the department and enterprise level. Additionally, participating in routine maintenance tasks such as backups, updates, and security patches. The role also plays a significant part of our security systems, monitoring and responding top potential threats and system vulnerabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitors system performance, resources and availability using various tools to ensure optimal performance and identify potential issues proactively.
- Investigates and resolve system-related problems promptly to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
- Installs, configures, and updates operating systems, software, and applications across various platforms as required.
- Applies patches, updates, and security fixes to operating systems, software, and hardware firmware to keep systems up-to-date and secure.
- Monitors backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and business continuity in case of system failures or disasters.
- Conducts vulnerability assessments and scans to identify weaknesses in systems, networks, and applications. Coordinate with senior staff to prioritize and remediate vulnerabilities in a timely manner.
- Responds to potential cybersecurity threats such as phishing, malware, and Denial of Service attempts.
- Assists in developing and delivering security awareness training and materials to educate users about cybersecurity best practices and help them recognize and avoid security threats such as phishing attacks.
- Assist in configuring and hardening systems, networks, and applications to minimize security risks and ensure they adhere to security best practices and industry standards.
- Creates, modifies, and deletes user accounts as per organizational policies, ensuring proper access controls and permissions.
- Implements and enforces security policies, procedures, and best practices to protect systems and data from unauthorized access, malware, and other threats.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for reference and knowledge sharing.
- Identifies opportunities for system optimization and performance improvement, such as tuning configurations, upgrading hardware, or implementing new technologies.
- Coordinates with vendors for procurement, support, and maintenance of hardware, software, and services, ensuring timely resolution of issues and adherence to service level agreements (SLAs).
- Ensures systems adhere to regulatory requirements, industry standards, and organizational policies related to data privacy, security, and governance.
- Identifies repetitive tasks and automate them using scripting or configuration management tools to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
- Responds to system-related incidents, including outages, security breaches, and service disruptions, following established incident response procedures to minimize impact and restore service quickly.
- Mentor to junior technicians and provide training on new technologies and procedures.
- Stays updated on emerging technologies, best practices, and industry trends through self-learning and training, and share knowledge with team members to enhance collective expertise.
- Responsible for performing a diverse range of duties including but not limited to project management, customer service, administrative tasks, collaborating with team members, and maintaining a high standard of quality and efficiency.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field (preferred) or 6 years of experience in IT support or related field, one of which focused on system administration and infrastructure management; or a combination of education and work experience sufficient to perform all required duties at a competent level.
- Proficient knowledge of Windows workstation and Server operating systems.
- Experience in: Exchange Online, Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams
- Microsoft PowerShell scripting, Registry Editing,
- Familiarity in virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Good understanding of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
- Communications experience with VOIP, VPN and Network switching environments.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) are a plus. - Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues.
- Valid Driving License.
- Ability to lift and carry IT equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Additional Information:
- This is a full-time position based at our facilities.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support maintenance activities or IT projects. On-call support rotation with the admin team is a possibility.
- This position may involve access to confidential and secure information. Employees must demonstrate discretion and adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Reasoning Ability: Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Also, this position is engaged in the movement of office furniture (desks, filing cabinets, bookcases, etc.… during the PC installation process at various locations throughout the city. Job duties also entail loading/unloading City vehicles, driving City vehicles, climbing stairs, and working with wiring overhead. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
