SUMMARY:

Provides direct technical and professional support to the Transportation Department for all municipal development projects, private development along with Engineering and Street permits as well as provide consultation, assistance, and instruction to department staff and the public as outlined below and perform other jobs as deemed necessary.

Levels of Responsibility:

Supervisory Responsibility: This position works under the supervision of more senior department staff for guidance and oversight when hired, less once experience is gained.

Assets: Computer, copier, desk phone, petty cash, city p-cards and office supplies

Security: Sensitive - Access to city website postings, confidential development proposals, financial information, and the city’s critical infrastructure asset network.

Technology Knowledge: “ESRI” GIS, Bluebeam Revu, Civic Plus, Civic Clerk, Central Square Trakit, Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, One Note, Teams, Word, Excel, Power Point), Executime, and Work Order Management System.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting relationships, work assignments, and work schedules may be subject to change to meet City needs or operational requirements. Attendance at work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors, and co-workers are essential elements of this position.

Works under the general supervision and guidance of the Assistant Street Manager. May lead and direct the work of others and work autonomously, with minimal supervision.

Ensures the accountability and accuracy of department clerical and administrative personnel, processes, and equipment within the Transportation Division.

Records and maintains Transportation files and information concerning Private and Public Projects.

Ensures all permits and projects adheres to the Bentonville Municipal Code.

Serves as liaison to the public, contractors, engineers, and architects regarding improvements in the City’s right of way.

Records and maintains files and information concerning department ordinances and contracts related to street right of ways.

Assists in updating, promoting, and implementing the City’s Master Street Plan.

Assist public with all Transportation Division related items and/or concerns.

Reviews all Transportation Permits for Completeness work in the Right of Way.

Assist Street Department with Traffic Closure webpage and press releases.

Assist with Front Desk Administrative duties when needed in the absence of staff.

Serves as Assistant to the Transportation Department for preparation of administrative reports, presentations, and clerical needs.

Acts as the “Primary Contact” for complaints and information from customers and city departments relating to work in the right of way.

A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required and expected.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree and three (3) years of Civil Engineering (or related) experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top City management, public groups, and professional engineers, engineering firms/groups, and developers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Valid Driver’s License

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
