SUMMARY The IT Junior Systems Administrator works under the operation control of the Systems Administrator to provide support to the operations and maintenance of the City’s IT systems and network operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Reporting relationships, work assignments, and work schedules may be subject to change in order to meet City needs or operational requirements. Attendance at work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors, and co-workers are essential elements of this position. Must be willing to participate in scheduled on call rotation to assist with Public Safety and Public Amenity departments who operate outside normal business hours. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain and upgrade, and patch Windows servers, Department Level Applications, and various network equipment.
  • Utilize the IT Service Desk to receive work, document fixes, research solutions.
  • Perform daily operational support and monitoring of all information systems and services including Windows AD, DHCP, DNS, IIS, Apache, SQL, Exchange, VMWare, Microsoft Azure and Office 365 and enterprise applications.
  • Provide operational support for Department Level applications and systems.
  • Monitor and maintain backup systems for city data infrastructure.
  • Proactively collaborate with our IT team to analyze and resolve performance and other IT related issues.
  • Create and maintain system administration procedures and technical documentation.
  • Follow company City IT standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist users with IT and network operations tasks as requested.
  • Ensure compliance with security and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with IT management staff, and our IT team to implement large scale IT initiatives.
  • Provide Technology mentoring and training to IT staff and city employees.
  • Other duties as directed by IT Management staff.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High School diploma or equivalent and 2-Year college-level education and/or credentials, and 5+ years IT Technician experience; or a combination of education and work experience sufficient to perform all required duties at a fully competent advanced level. Excellent organizational, time-management, and customer-service skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Valid driver’s license

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

A successful candidate will have working knowledge of the following :

Microsoft Windows environments

Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, TCP-IP

Server/PC hardware, backups

User account and group policy management

Cisco firewall administration

Remote access and general network/information security

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The employee occasionally uses hand trucks or dollies when moving large, bulky items. This position is regularly engaged in loading and unloading large, bulky boxes containing Personal Computers (PCs), Monitors, Printers, and other PC-related equipment. This position is regularly required to position and move PCs and their related components into tight spaces. Also, this position is engaged in the movement of office furniture (desks, filing cabinets, bookcases, etc… during the PC installation process at various locations throughout the City. Job duties also entail loading/unloading City vehicles, driving City vehicles, climbing stairs, and working with wiring overhead. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
