About the Role:

As a Welder/Mechanic I at the Road Department, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our vehicles and equipment. Your main responsibility will be to perform welding and mechanical repairs on a variety of vehicles, including trucks, heavy equipment, and specialized machinery. By utilizing your expertise in welding and mechanical systems, you will contribute to the overall maintenance and longevity of our fleet, ensuring that our operations run smoothly and without interruption. Your attention to detail and ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues will be essential in keeping our vehicles and equipment in optimal working condition.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification in welding or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in performing welding and mechanical repairs.
  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and blueprints.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a similar role within a road department or transportation industry.
  • Additional certifications in mechanical repair or related fields.
  • Experience with hydraulic systems and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures in a maintenance environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform welding repairs on various vehicles and equipment, including trucks, heavy machinery, and specialized vehicles.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and inspections to identify and address mechanical issues.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical problems and develop effective repair solutions.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to prioritize and complete repair tasks in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.

Skills:

In this role, your welding and mechanical skills will be put to use on a daily basis. You will use your welding expertise to repair and strengthen various components of vehicles and equipment, ensuring their structural integrity. Additionally, your mechanical skills will be essential in diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues, such as engine problems, hydraulic system failures, and electrical malfunctions. Your ability to read and interpret technical manuals and blueprints will enable you to understand the specifications and requirements for each repair task. Attention to detail and precision in your work will ensure that the repairs are completed accurately and effectively. Finally, your problem-solving and decision-making skills will be utilized to troubleshoot issues and develop appropriate repair solutions.
