Position Overview: The Director of Development will provide leadership, strategic initiative, and management of all fund-raising efforts. The Director will create and coordinate programs to increase the organization's support base among individuals, corporations, charitable foundations, and additional sources. The Director will cultivate new and maintain existing relationships with emphasis on annual giving program, major gifts and program support funds, planned gifts, event sponsorships, and grant funding. The Director will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will serve as a key member of the management team. There will be regular, ongoing performance goals and objectives that will be monitored and evaluated consistently. The Director will be responsible for supervising/coordinating support staff. They will also serve as a member of the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees where they will provide regular presentations and updates.

Principal Responsibilities (Essential Functions) The Director will be required to confidently manage and participate in all aspects of the gift cycle: • Initiate contacts with potential donors • Develop appropriate cultivation strategies, including working with volunteers • Move donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure • Make solicitations, when appropriate • Manage/perform all post-donation tasks, including tax letters, thank-you notes, etc. • Maintain relationships with donors and maintain a donor database • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintain accountability standards to donors, and ensure compliance with code of ethical principles and standards of conduct for fundraising professionals • Keep informed of best practices in the field of non-profit fundraising

The Director will have ultimate responsibility and oversight for all development activities including but not limited to: • Fundraising Events & Sponsorship Opportunities • Annual Giving Programs and Planned Gifts • Grant Research and Administration And, not as a primary responsibility, but as called upon: • Public Relations and Marketing Activities

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of five years of successful fundraising and development experience. Prior experience should include public relations and marketing or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities needed for the position. • Ability to expertly articulate the mission and funding needs so that individuals, corporations, and charitable foundations will financially support the organization. • Knowledge of gift planning techniques. • Ability to effectively coordinate, direct and provide leadership, support, and enthusiasm to volunteer fundraising efforts.

Education Required: • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or equivalent combination of training and experience. • MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher), Network for Good or comparable fundraising data management application, and desktop publishing.
