About The Position

The Campus Security Manager plays a critical role in fostering a safe and secure campus environment. This position is responsible for supporting awareness of and adherence to security policies and procedures, leading safety training and drills, and collaborating with various departments to address security needs for daily operations, campus events, and public programming.

The Campus Security Manager partners with campus leadership and contracted security providers to support large-scale events and activities across campus venues. This role balances operational oversight with hands-on engagement, requiring strong judgment, effective project management skills, and the ability to respond to a wide range of situations.

The primary work schedule is standard business hours; however, flexibility is required to support campus events and programming that may occur during evenings and weekends. Success in this role requires an organized, service-oriented self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven, and community-oriented environment and works collaboratively to achieve results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Foster a culture of safety by engaging proactively with campus community members and addressing safety concerns.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on campus security policies, partnering with departments to support safe and effective operations.
  • Attend departmental planning meetings to assess security needs and ensure appropriate measures are in place for campus events and activities.
  • Lead training sessions and safety drills for Campus Security staff and other campus personnel to enhance preparedness and response capabilities.
  • Participate in incident command teams and direct emergency response activities as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with campus leadership regarding safety, health, and security issues within the scope of responsibility.
  • Coordinate responses to alarms and emergency incidents, including reviewing incident reports, daily logs, audits, and related documentation for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and deliver security status reports for management, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure thorough investigation of safety and security incidents, actively participating in complex or high-impact cases.
  • Facilitate and track key performance indicators (KPIs), including training objectives, compliance metrics, and operational effectiveness.
  • Manage budgets for security operations, monitoring expenditures and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Proactively seek and maintain awareness of campus entity policies, programs, activities, and events to provide a high level of customer service.
  • Maintain alignment with established uniform and appearance standards and ensure punctual, on-site availability to support security operations and campus events.
  • Perform duties across all operational scenarios, including overnight shifts, campus closures, inclement weather, and holidays, due to essential personnel status.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested to meet departmental and organizational needs.

Team Leadership

  • Provide clear leadership and coordination across all internal and external security partners to ensure effective daily operations and accountability to established goals and KPIs.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, and supervision of Campus Security personnel, ensuring staff are prepared and properly equipped.
  • Monitor and manage team performance, addressing attendance, conduct, and productivity issues promptly and professionally.
  • Encourage employee engagement and morale through recognition and open communication practices.
  • Promote continuous improvement, professional development, and collaboration within the team to support organization priorities.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in security management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in security operations or security management, preferably within an educational, cultural, or event-venue environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing security policies, procedures, and emergency response protocols.
  • Proven leadership experience, including supervision, training, and development of security personnel.
  • Experience planning for and supporting large-scale events, public programming, and complex operational environments.
  • Strong judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • High level of professional integrity and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with campus leadership, internal stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in conflict resolution, diplomacy, and professional discretion.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, monitor expenses, and support fiscally responsible operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and standard administrative tools.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide array of personalities, roles, and perspectives across the campus community.
  • Must be in good standing or qualified to obtain licensure as a Non-Commissioned Security Guard in the State of Arkansas.
  • Ability to pass required background checks and meet all regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain First Responder, CPR, and other related certifications on an annual basis.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Industry-recognized professional security certification preferred, or the ability to obtain, such as:
    • Certified Protection Professional (CPP)
    • Certified Institutional Protection Manager (CIPM)
    • Certified Security Supervision and Management (CSSM)

Physical Demands: In the work environment described, this role requires sustained use of a computer and telephone for prolonged periods of time. The position requires effective verbal and written communication with others, good eye/hand coordination, and the ability to lift and transport up to 25 pounds. Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, the ability to adjust focus, and visual acuity necessary to review technical plans. The position regularly involves standing, walking, using hands and fingers to handle or operate tools, controls, and equipment, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and communicating clearly with others. Duties include performing routine site inspections, which may involve navigating tight or elevated spaces, and exposure to varying temperatures and conditions.

Work Environment: Work is performed in both indoor office settings and outdoor environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions, mechanical rooms, rooftops, and other construction areas. Noise levels range from low to high depending on site activity. The role also requires regular interaction with both internal team members and external partners in a professional and courteous manner. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with safety protocols. This position may involve working in confined spaces or environments with temperature fluctuations depending on the season or building system conditions. Local travel is required, along with a flexible schedule that may include evenings or weekends based on business needs.
