Summary:

Provides basic pastoral care for patients, families, employees, medical staff, and daily visitors; and performs other duties as assigned or required by the department or hospital.

Additional Information:

Required Education:

High school diploma or GED or equivalent

Recommended Education:

Bachelor's degree in a related field of study.

Required Work Experience:

High School Diploma/GED, or 2 years of experience in lieu of a diploma/GED.

Description

1. Under direction from the Director of Pastoral Care or Senior Chaplain, provides pastoral care during crisis by providing a calming presence and influence.

2. Uses fundamental understanding of the grief process, especially in sudden death to counsel and minister to individuals and families.

3. Responds to patient and family needs based on informal assessment of spiritual and pastoral needs.

4. Fosters and maintains good working relationships with patients, families, visitors and co-workers.

5. Facilitates the spiritual, religious and pastoral needs of patients and families of different faith backgrounds.

6. Completes departmental and hospital required documentation.

7. Performs other duties as assigned.
