Job Description:Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) is seeking experienced, motivated, and dedicated leaders and educators to participate in the design and delivery of an innovative four-year medical school curriculum that engages medical students in active and novel learning. About Us!Founded in 2021 by philanthropist Alice Walton, the School of Medicine, (formerly named Whole Health School of Medicine and Health Sciences), will offer a four-year medical degree-granting program that integrates conventional medicine with holistic principles and self-care practices. Taught by leading medical practitioners and scientific minds, the first-of-its-kind medical school will help students rise to the health challenges of the 21st century with a focus on mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health and will include an attached clinic for clinical training in these concepts. The School of Medicine seeks to be a national medical school with the goal of welcoming its inaugural class in 2025, pending programmatic and institutional accreditation. The School of Medicine filed its request for applicant status with the Liaison Committee on Medical Education in July 2022.Construction of the 154,000 square-foot building began in Spring 2023, with the goal of completing and welcoming the first class in Fall 2025, pending accreditation. AWSOM will be located east of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas, and connected through the trails to its sister organization, Whole Health Institute. What We SeekWe are building a cadre of medical professionals trained in conventional medicine and in whole health, by reimagining medical education. We seek leaders and faculty who are excited by this endeavor. We are building a health care learning and delivery environment in which diversity is a strength and highly valued. Ideal candidates are committed to our goals of inclusive excellence, and to facilitating optimal health for all using a whole health approach.Faculty and staff members will contribute to the development and rollout of the ARCHES curriculum, which is built on evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning. It includes the following six core elements:

  • Science of Medicine
All six areas of the curriculum will be interwoven throughout the four-year curriculum. About The PositionReporting to the Assistant Dean for Admissions, Recruitment, and Whole Health Initiation, the Director of Outreach will serve as the primary resource for establishing, developing, and maintaining relationships and partnerships with community organizations, government agencies, academic institutions, and other institutions that work with health outreach and communities. The director will develop programs and collaborations to promote public health awareness and support the integration of these programs within the school of medicine. The director assists community partners, faculty, and students in developing mutually beneficial service partnerships. The director works collaboratively to ensure service activities carry out the mission of AWSOM and align with the strategic goals, vision, and values of the school of medicine. We are building a workplace and learning climate in which inclusive excellence and whole health principles are inextricable parts of our culture and practices. All voices are heard and valued, and professional and personal growth are actively supported. While AWSOM does not have a tenure track, we are building a school that will facilitate exceptional professional development opportunities for our faculty and other team members. Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions Specific to the Position:
  • Responsible for the planning, executing, and assessing all activities related to the establishment and maintenance of mutually beneficial community-based relationships and partnerships.
  • Work in close connection with members of the community to identify and assess specific needs.
  • Develop, plan, execute, and coordinate service-learning programs and partnerships that are meaningful and safe, and positively impact our community.
  • When necessary, develop and deliver training and information sessions for staff, faculty, students, and volunteers of community agencies.
  • Encourage and engage students, faculty, and relevant community partners in mission-related volunteer opportunities.
  • Develop an inventory and system for monitoring available outreach activities as well as tracking faculty, staff, and student participation.
  • Establish opportunities for teaching experiences for medical students with schools and community agencies. Serve as a liaison between these schools, community agencies, students, and faculty by establishing and maintaining contact with directors and appropriate staff.
  • Perform site visits to ensure the quality of educational and service experiences.
  • Implement effective mechanisms for communication with both internal and external stakeholders and comply with all requirements for reporting.
  • Hire, train, manage, and support the professional development of the Outreach Coordinator.
  • Contribute to media relations efforts publicizing outreach efforts of AWSOM in newsletters, social media, and other media to share successes and developments of outreach activities.
  • Represent AWSOM at community events and meetings with partner organizations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the AWSOM mission.
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in a health care discipline, education, or a related field.
Preferred Education
  • Master’s degree in stated fields.
Minimum Experience And Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in community outreach, service learning, or a related field.
  • Development and management of community partnerships involving students.
  • Experience planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating outreach programs.
  • Ability to develop, facilitate, and lead workshops, meetings, and training experiences for students, faculty, staff, and community agencies.
  • Demonstrated success in organizing events and coordinating efforts from a diverse group of individuals.
  • Exhibit good judgment to make non-routine decisions unique to each situation and service site.
Preferred Work Experiences And Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education at a graduate or health professions program overseeing community outreach activities.
  • Experience creating new partnerships with community organizations, government agencies, and/or academic institutions.
  • Experience with Northwest Arkansas non-profit organizations is strongly preferred.
