Phlebotomist - Laboratory

Position Summary
The role of the Phlebotomist reports to the Laboratory Supervisor. This position is responsible for ensuring the proper collection, labeling, and transporting of blood and other patient specimens. This position interacts closely with laboratory staff, patients, nursing, and medical personnel in the collection of specimens.

\n

Essential Position Responsibilities
• Ensure patient is greeted and properly identified using the proper identifiers
• Perform proper venipuncture procedures and dermal skin specimen collections, therapeutic phlebotomy, and collect blood cultures utilizing aseptic technique
• Adhere to proper labelling requirements for blood banking purposes
• Prepare specimens for transport to the laboratory
• Assist with troubleshooting phlebotomy equipment
• Document specimen related information in the laboratory information system
• Clean and maintain phlebotomy equipment and reports issues to leadership, as needed
• Assist with specimen processing and distribution to different laboratory departments
• Comply with HIPAA and accreditation agency rules and regulations
• Follow safety and infection control guidelines
• Communicate effectively with internal and external customers
• Assist with other duties, as assigned

Qualifications
• Education: High school diploma or GED
• Licensure and Certifications: National phlebotomy certification, preferred.
• Experience: Previous experience in an acute hospital setting or phlebotomy role, preferred.
