Summary of Job Duties:

The Director of Career Education provides leadership to offer innovative career education to all U of A students (undergraduate, graduate, in-person & online students). Supervises all career education positions under the Offices of Career Connections (OCC) which includes two generalist career coaches, Associate Director of Inclusive Career Design and Associate Director of On-Campus Student Employment. The Director of Career Education will also provide guidance, support, and training to all campus-wide career education roles (such as college-embedded career coaches).This position oversees the U of A career education content, resources and tools, and ensures Career Connections provides quality services to U of A students and support to faculty & staff embedding career education into their work with students. The Director is a member of the OCC leadership and reports to the Executive Director and Assistant Vice Chancellor of Career Connections.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, career counseling, higher education, business, or related field from an accredited institution of higher education

  • At least two years post-masters full-time experience providing career education/coaching/advising/counseling services and programming to college students

  • Supervisory experience of full-time staff

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least three years of progressive experience providing career education/coaching/advising/counseling services for college students.

  • At least three years of supervisory and administrative experience.

  • At least three years experience coordinating and evaluating programming and/or curriculum development.

  • Experience using a data management system (such as Handshake) to track and report services provided, identifying gaps in service, and making data-informed decisions.

  • At least one year of experience intentionally engaging with minoritized college student populations.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledgeable of career development theories and able to apply theory based on client's needs

  • Knowledgeable of occupational, career exploration and search resources, strategies and technologies

  • Knowledgeable of the labor market and employment trends

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, strategy, supervision, and management skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft 360 skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams/SharePoint)

  • Proven ability to plan and implement programs with quantifiable results

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to solve problems quickly and effectively

  • Ability to plan, organize and implement multiple projects with complex logistics involving a number of tasks and priorities in a fast-paced, diverse environment

  • Ability to collect, analyze, interpret and report data results

  • Ability to research topics and audiences, draft content, and deliver customized presentations to diverse constituencies

Salary Information:

$67,000 - $73,000 (Commensurate with education and experience)
