Position Title: Birthday Party Facilitator
Reports to: Retail Store Manager and Buyer
Classification
Type: part-time, non-exempt position
Schedule: Approximately 10-15 hours per week, required availability on 1-2 weeknights (after 5pm), plus Saturday and Sunday. This role will work BOTH weekend days, and therefore complete weekend availability is a requirement.
Minimum starting hourly rate: $12.00-$14.55 Hourly
Scott Family Amazeum Overview
The Scott Family Amazeum is a hands-on, interactive museum in Northwest Arkansas and recognized as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. We create a fun environment where risk taking, imagining, problem solving, discovery, collaboration, and exploration bring children and adults together to learn and grow.
Amazeum Mission: To engage the imagination of children and their families through interactive exhibits, programs, and resources while creating an excitement for lifelong learning and the enrichment of lives.
Through experiences with the Amazeum, individuals and the community are engaged in building relationships and developing identities as creative, curious, and innovative shapers for the region. Learning at the Amazeum is an active, playful exploration that inspires curiosity. It is rooted in inquiry-based discovery and involves an element of risk. Hands-on learning opportunities allow guests to exercise critical thinking in the context of play.
The Amazeum facility includes approximately 50,000 square feet of indoor space and one acre of outdoor exhibition and activity space. The museum is located at the intersection of Museum Way and J Street in Bentonville, AR.
Position Summary
The Amazeum needs Birthday Party Facilitators! We are seeking team members who understand the importance of celebration, hospitality, and creating memorable experiences. Birthday Party Facilitators inspire fun and curiosity through positive, playful interactions with guests. Facilitators handle all party activities including: facilitating party activities, fostering family exploration, providing excellent customer service, ensuring a safe and hygienic space, and helping evaluate and improve guest experiences.
Essential Functions
Guest Interaction and Facilitation:
- Interact directly with birthday celebration guests, facilitating engaging, age-appropriate activities following the Amazeum’s philosophy of learning.
Provide guests with supplemental activities, hands-on demonstrations, and themed party information.
Respond knowledgeably to guest questions; follow party programming schedules.
Engage joyfully with children while managing the dynamics of a birthday party setting.
Logistics and Operations:
- Handle party reservations, payments, and pre-party confirmation calls.
- Set up and tear down party spaces, ensuring a safe and organized environment at all times, and communicating maintenance needs.
- Assist with the organization and storage of party supplies and equipment.
Safety and Cleanliness:
- Clean props and reset party spaces, ensuring a safe environment at all times.
- Maintain hygiene standards and ensure all areas are clean before, during, and after parties.
Collaboration and Improvement:
- Work closely with other Amazeum team members to model best practices of party facilitation and hospitality.
- Collaborate with the education team to develop, evaluate, and improve party activities and facilitation.
- Actively participate in scheduled training sessions and meetings.
- Learn new party activities and content on a regular basis.
- Provide programming support for marketing and special events at the Amazeum and off-site at community partner organizations.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- 16+ years of age or older
- 1+ year experience working with children (babysitting, youth groups, children’s church groups, etc.).
- Demonstrated success in guest engagement/customer service.
- Strong verbal communication skills with emphasis on interacting with diverse audiences of all ages in an engaging and compelling fashion.
- Able to problem-solve effectively under pressure.
- Proven ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.
- Ability to handle interactions with adults during moments of potential conflict and maintain a positive and professional demeanor.
- Valid driver's license, current auto insurance, and reliable personal transportation required.
Physical Requirements
- Able to stand, walk, and interact with children and adults for extended periods.
- Able to lift up to 20 lbs overhead regularly and occasionally 40 lbs.
- Ability to work in an environment with moderate to excessive noise.
- Comfortable performing manual labor, including setting up and tearing down party rooms.
Preferred Skills:
- Working towards a degree in Hospitality, Education, Play Therapy, Science, Art, Theater, Museum Studies, or related field.
- Bilingual skills.
- Basic understanding of inquiry-based or play facilitation.
- Basic understanding of developmental levels and different learning styles.
- Capacity to be spontaneous and interact positively with guests.
- Ability to demonstrate curiosity and passion for learning.
- Ability to balance shifting priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced, and ever-changing environment.
- Comfortable being silly and playful while also being respectful in speech, actions, and demeanor.
- Self-starting ability to see the need without others guiding and take initiative in solving problems.
