The Senior Avionics Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing electrical systems on general aviation aircraft which includes integration of modern avionics equipment. They create manufacturing instructions that production teams use to create and install their designs. Also, they lead troubleshooting and repair efforts for customers, ensuring a high degree of fleet readiness. To be successful, this person will need to have a wide range of electrical aviation knowledge with previous experience in electrical and electromechanical integration.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Design new electrical systems for aircraft. This includes function analysis, product sourcing, and manufacturability.
  • Participate in new aircraft certification IAW 14CFR. Coordinate with relevant DERs on system design and acceptance. Technically justify designs and collaborate with regulatory authorities. Create, review, and submit technical reports that support certification.
  • Create manufacturing drawings (work instructions) that production teams use to create electrical systems.
  • Troubleshoot existing aircraft systems and lead repair, replacement, and/or redesign efforts.
  • Lead product improvement efforts in both minor and major change categories.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal structure, system, and flight test engineers on aircraft design, function, and certification.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers on electrical and avionics principles.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent from an ABET-accredited university (relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree).
  • 5 years or more of relevant experience in designing, integrating, testing, and troubleshooting electrical systems typical of piston and turbine-powered aircraft.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Experience using 3D modeling software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Experience using Electronic Product Data Management (EPDM) systems.
  • Experience creating professional and efficiently written reports based on technical subjects.
  • Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 21 and Part 23.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working for a general aviation OEM.
  • Experience or understanding of composite aerostructures.
  • Proficient with 3D modeling software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Experience with Garmin avionics products
